L O C A T I O N

Located on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains in northern California, Plumas County is still one of the best kept secrets in California. Sugarpine Aviators is pleased to occupy center stage at the 4100 foot-long Gansner Airfield at the county seat in Quincy. The charm and beauty of this sparsely-populated area lies partly in the uncongested traffic pattern at the mountain airport, a perfect setting to learn the art of mountain flying. The population of Plumas County is 21,000 people with 6600 residing in the Quincy area. The town, picnic and camping sites, motels, a health club and the Feather River Community College are within easy walking distance of the airport.

Plumas County has a well-defined four season climate with each season promoting different activities. The natural beauty of the forest and meadow lands changes with each season giving one a special sense of the passing of time and of being alive.

Plumas County comprises 2,618 square miles, of which over one million acres (67%) is National Forest land. Approximately 1,000 miles of streams; about 100 lakes; 5,000 acre Plumas Eureka State Park and part of Lassen Volcanic National Park, plus the Bucks Lake Wilderness Area. Not far away are 7 golf courses, 2 ski areas, 150 motels, resorts and trailer parks.
